W&B Event: Getting ready for the General Data Protection Regulation

Join us for this training and networking event in the Henry Mendus Room at our new Bladon Office on Wednesday 13 September 2017.

On 25 May 2018, new laws governing the use of all personal data will come into effect throughout the European Union.  Known as the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR, this will require all businesses operating in the EU to comply with the strictest data protection laws in the world.

In this session, our specialist data protection team will provide useful, practical advice on preparing your business to be compliant with the GDPR, which includes the following changes:

  • Higher fines of €20,000,000 or 4% of total worldwide annual turnover.
  • Wider international scope, capturing many businesses without a physical base in the EU.
  • Stronger requirements for individual consent.
  • Data security breach reporting requirements.
  • New options for international data transfers.
  • Data protection by design and by default.
  • Stronger rights for individuals including deletion and portability.
  • Mandatory data protection officers for businesses that meet certain criteria.

Speakers:

Matt Johnston is a Band 1 ranked technology lawyer who advises large UK corporations on a variety of technology matters including complex data protection and e-Privacy issues, both in a B2C and B2B context. He was also in-house legal adviser to the New Zealand Data Protection Commissioner.
