Matt is ranked as a Leading Individual in Legal 500 in IT & Telecoms and is ranked as a Band 1 lawyer in Information Technology by Chambers & Partners, 2023. Matt advises numerous large UK corporations on a variety of technology matters, with such clients including Universal Music, Electricity North West, Mitchells & Butlers and A-Plan.

He specialises in technology contracts, particularly business critical outsourcings and system supply agreements, cloud arrangements, agile software development and AI / process automation. He also assists clients with big data and data services initiatives and is one of the few UK lawyers to have extensive specialist experience in projects relating to electricity innovation and regulatory matters, including in relation to Ofgem’s national innovation allowance and national innovation competition initiatives.

Matt has specialised in technology law since he was in-house legal adviser to the New Zealand Data Protection Commissioner in 2005. He qualified as a solicitor in New Zealand in 2003 and has worked at other leading UK firms since 2006. He is qualified in both England and Wales and New Zealand and is a member of the Society for Computers and Law.
