Tonic Games (formerly Mediatonic) – Investment in Mediatonic by Synova Capital

White & Black advised Mediatonic on a recent secondary sale of shares to, and further investment by, Synova Capital.

White & Black … their support on this investment; their diligence, commercial intuition and tenacity was key to this transaction

Dave Bailey, CEO of Mediatonic

Founded by Dave Bailey and Paul Croft, Mediatonic is one of the UK’s largest independent games developers building large scale games for digital platforms. Mediatonic was recently selected by Tech Nation to become part of the ‘Future Fifty’ programme which identifies the most successful fast-growing and late-stage technology companies. Mediatonic has launched over 100 games and formed partnerships with some of the world’s biggest game publishers including Scopely and Square Enix. The company’s proven track record in delivering and operating high quality titles (particularly in the dynamic mobile and “free to play” game spaces) has led blue-chip publishers to partner with the company to develop and manage some of their most significant intellectual properties including Gears Pop! (Gears of War, Microsoft) and Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World (Harry Potter, Warner Bros).

Synova Capital has partnered with Mediatonic to support the continuing growth of the company including investment in strategic partnerships, development of its own original games and the support and publishing of niche games by third party developers such as the top selling PC Building Simulator and the forthcoming Good Company.

The White & Black team was led by partner Stephen Silvester who commented “we have worked with the senior team at Mediatonic over a number of years on various projects which helped to lay the foundation for the transaction.  We are delighted to see a long standing and valued client move forward to the next exciting stage of its development.

Dave Bailey, CEO of Mediatonic commented “We’re delighted to welcome Synova Capital as we embark on our next phase of growth.  I am especially grateful to White & Black for their support on this investment; their diligence, commercial intuition and tenacity was key to this transaction being so successful for everyone involved”.
