Business is increasingly global, as is much of our work.

In fact, about a third of our work is for clients based overseas and we are particularly known for our work with companies from continental Europe and the USA.

Our lawyers regularly act for overseas clients on international and cross-border matters. We advise on corporate acquisitions and joint ventures, commercial matters such as data protection compliance and on commercial disputes in the English Courts. We advise a number of our overseas clients on their inward investment and expansion plans in the UK and collaborate with overseas legal counsel on our UK clients’ international growth.

We often find we are required to assist clients with commercial agreements which apply across a number of territories and legal jurisdictions. Whether advising on the restrictions imposed on the processing of “personal data” under the Data Protection Act 1998 or the codification of director’s duties under the Companies Act 2006, our lawyers have extensive experience of advising overseas clients on the statutory framework which will apply to their interests and operations in the United Kingdom.

We have a particular understanding of the issues for overseas clients when making an acquisition in the United Kingdom. We are familiar with customary indemnification provisions in US style transactions and regularly work with overseas counsel on transactions for clients based in Continental Europe. As a consequence our lawyers regularly undertake and coordinate legal due diligence in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, provide opinions on corporate capacity and constitutional matters and handle conflict of laws issues.

Many of our UK based clients are international in terms of their sales distribution or supply chain configuration and many rely on us for advice when contemplating international corporate transactions, investments, commercial agreements or when engaged in international commercial disputes.

We have a strong network of ‘close friends’ in international jurisdictions, all of which meet our approved supplier criteria.

The firm's work often has an international element; it has recently advised on deals in Europe and the USA.

How We Work

White & Black is not part of a formal law firm network and as a result we are able to work with trusted associated law firms across the globe. As a result of our clients’ continued requirement for international legal advice, we have developed close relationships with lawyers qualified in a number of countries. These are professional contacts with whom we have regularly worked on a number of occasions, who share our attitudes to client service and quality of advice and, most of all, who are people that we trust to treat our clients with the care and respect they deserve.
