Careers at White & Black

White & Black provides rewarding legal careers with excellent clients, fast-moving work set in outstanding offices. We welcome applications from experienced lawyers looking to join our thriving and dynamic law firm.

White & Black offered all the things I was looking for in a firm: excellent training in a niche practice, as well as genuine client exposure and real responsibility.  There is a “can-do” attitude at White & Black and everyone pitches in to see that the work is done to a high standard. This isn’t a traditional, stuffy firm. My opinion was sought, valued and actually listened to. There is a ‘roll your sleeves up’ mentality and everybody just gets on with the job.

Doing things differently

We established White & Black with the utter conviction that the business of the law had become outdated and irrelevant to both clients and lawyers alike. We saw that many in our profession had been trained to be instinctively risk-averse, uncomfortable with numbers and finances and unwilling to offer an opinion based on their own informed, commercial judgment. As a result, the profession offered poor value for money in real terms.

We saw an opportunity to provide legal advice that was as uncompromising in its commerciality as it was rigorous in its focus on technical excellence. This analysis informs our belief that our people are our greatest asset and that we should invest in them accordingly. We train our team to put themselves in their clients’ shoes, to be innovative when carrying out legal assignments and, above all, to be a true commercial and business partner to our clients.

A work-life balance is actively encouraged as we believe this delivers a happier, more productive team.

What we’re looking for

We take great pride in taking on and working with colleagues with entrepreneurial flair, technical excellence, empathy and a genuine passion for their work. We work in a collegiate, team-orientated way that offers something greater than the sum of its parts. We recruit for shared values and believe that all our team should be business people and not just technically gifted lawyers. If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you.

Please email our Partner in charge of recruitment, Victoria Wright at applications@wablegal.com with your CV and a covering letter.

Shortlisted applications will be invited to attend interview.  The closing date for applications for each year’s intake is 30 September in the year prior to commencement.  We generally have trainee intakes in January, March and September of each year but we adopt a flexible approach to this.  Trainees are based in our Oxfordshire office.
